Job Description:
The Red Hat Cloud Storage and Data Services Engineering team is looking for an Associate Software Engineer to join our CephFS team. In this role you will collaborate with our worldwide Ceph Engineering team to develop and enhance CephFS, the file system component of the Ceph software-defined storage system. You will design and implement new capabilities and features to improve scalability, performance and efficiency. You will participate in a vibrant and active open source community to deliver enterprise-quality software. Successful applicants must reside in a country where Red Hat is registered to do business.
What you will do:

- Develop the Ceph Metadata Server (MDS) using C++
- Integrate CephFS with Ceph orchestration tools using Python
- Integrate CephFS client features into the Linux kernel using C
- Operate the Teuthology testing framework to test and integrate changes
- Connect CephFS to higher-level technologies like the Rook operator
- Support the Ceph community through engagement on mailing lists, IRC, and other public discussions

- Experience working in C++; experience with C++0x is a plus
- Experience with data storage or file systems
- Experience using a Linux development environment
- Knowledge of distributed systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Basic Linux system administration; cluster administration experience is a plus
- Basic knowledge of Python
- Experience in Linux kernel development is a big plus and may substitute for experience in C++
- Experience working on distributed teams is a plus
- Past contribution to open source projects is a plus
